# Make a social video

Pick a testimonial and a template in the Social Video Editor, fit the words or trim the clip, then add captions, music and your branding.

Build a video in the **Social Video Editor**, where the preview shows exactly the video you'll export. The workspace owner and the project's Admins can make social videos on every plan; the options that need a higher plan are marked below.

1. **Open the editor**

In your project, open **Videos** in the Share section of the sidebar and click **Create Video**. To start from something specific, click a template under **Templates**, one of your recent testimonials under **Create from a Testimonial**, or a design you saved under **Your Templates**.

You can also start from your inbox: on **Approved**, click **Show more** on a text or video testimonial, then **Share** > **Create a video**.

2. **Choose the testimonial**

The **Template** tab opens first. Under **Testimonial**, click the testimonial shown (or **Select a Testimonial**) to search your approved text and video testimonials.

**Review Stack** and **Customer Montage** use several testimonials. Choose them under **Reviews in this video** or **Speakers in this video**: click **Suggest**, or add them from the list below, and use the arrows to change their order. For a montage, pick the line each speaker says.

3. **Pick a template and a look**

Click a tile under **Templates**; each one previews your testimonial. A greyed-out tile doesn't suit this testimonial, and it says why. Some templates come in more than one look, each with its own tile: **Editorial** and **Gradient** are the looks of Editorial, and **Clean**, **Dark Mode** and **Glass** are the looks of Framed.

Choosing another template or look resets the colours to that look's own. If your brand kit has a brand colour, it stays as the accent colour.

4. **Choose a format**

Under **Format**, pick **1:1** (Square), **4:5** (Portrait), **9:16** (Vertical) or **16:9** (Landscape). A new video starts on **9:16** when your plan includes it. A format with a lock isn't on your plan; clicking it takes you to upgrade. Free exports 1:1; Pro, Premium and Business export 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 and 16:9. You can add more formats when you export.

5. **Fit the words**

For text and photo templates, which show a written review:

   - **Words in the video** shows the review. To use part of it, select the words and click **Use the selected words**. Or click a word count next to **Shorten to**, and AI suggests passages of about that length; click one to use it. Either way the passage is continuous and word for word. **Use the full review** undoes it. Suggestions are included on every plan and don't use AI credits.
   - **Reading pace** (**Relaxed**, **Normal** or **Brisk**) sets how fast the words appear. **Length** is **Auto**, or **Custom** to set the seconds yourself.
   - Some templates add their own choices: **Headline number** in Stat Hook (check the number against the review, then switch on **Lead with this number**; until you do, the video leads with the rating, and without a rating it can't be exported), **Before and after** in Before / After (which photo is which, or **Swap**), **Hero photo** in Collage, and **Label**, the small word above the quote (leave it empty to hide it).

Below the choices, a line gives the video's length, or says what's stopping it, such as **This review is too long for one video — choose an excerpt.**

6. **Trim a video testimonial**

For video templates, which play a video testimonial:

   - **Captions:** when the caption timing is estimated, click **Re-time transcript** (or **Generate transcript** if the video has none) so each word appears exactly when it's spoken. It can take a couple of minutes. On Pro, Premium and Business. If you edited the testimonial's transcript, the captions use your edits.
   - **Clip:** click one of the best moments of about 15, 30 or 45 seconds, each with the reason it was picked (Pro, Premium and Business), or drag the range yourself. **Reset** goes back to the clip the editor started with. A clip can be up to 120 seconds long on Pro, 180 on Premium and 300 on Business.
   - **Fill the frame** crops the sides to fill the screen (slide **Focus** to keep the speaker in view); **Whole frame** keeps the whole recording over a blurred fill. Not every template offers this.
   - **Cut filler words** and **Shorten pauses** tighten the clip without changing or reordering what the customer says. They need word-exact timing, so re-time the transcript first if they're greyed out.
   - **Hook** (**Title** in Customer Montage) is your own headline, shown as a title (the editor says where). It's never shown as the customer's quote; leave it empty for none. **Use the suggestion** brings back the suggested one.
   - **Pull quote** in Hook + Proof picks the sentence the video freezes on, and **Chapters** shows where the chapter cards fall.

7. **Style it**

   - **Design** tab: **Background**, **Text Color**, **Accent Color**, **Display font**, **Body font** and **Show Rating**. **Use brand colours** applies your [brand kit](/help/create/brand-kit)'s colours (it appears when the kit has some), and **Reset to Template Defaults** undoes your changes.
   - **Audio** tab: choose a track from **Music Library**, or your own file under **Upload Custom** (use only audio you have the rights to). Set the **Volume**; on video templates, **Duck under speech** lowers the music while the customer talks. On Pro, Premium and Business.
   - **Branding** tab: your **Logo**, with its position, size and opacity, and the **End Card CTA**: **Headline**, **Subtitle (optional)** and **Link (optional)**. The link is shown as text, because a video can't be clicked. Back on the **Template** tab, **End card** sets the closing card's style (**Brand**, **Button**, or **Reviews** when there's a review score to show) and its **Length**. On Pro, Premium and Business.
   - **Captions** (Customer Montage only): **Bold Pop**, **Highlighter**, **Clean Box**, **Outline** or **Serif Subtitle**.
   - **Language** (Business): when the testimonial has a stored translation, pick its language, or **As written**.

8. **Check the preview**

Press play. On **9:16**, click **Safe zones** to see where Reels, TikTok and Shorts draw their buttons and captions. If the video can't be made yet, for example because the recording is still processing or a Review Stack needs more reviews, a message covers the preview and **Export Video** stays unavailable until it's fixed.

## What happens next

When the preview looks right, [export it](/help/create/export-social-videos). The editor doesn't keep your changes when you leave it, so to reuse a design, save it as a template; that article explains how.

- A new video starts from your [brand kit](/help/create/brand-kit).
- To make a video in another language, first [translate the testimonial](/help/manage/translate-testimonials).
- A video testimonial that's still processing can't be used yet: see [Video testimonial still processing](/help/troubleshooting/video-still-processing).
- For what each template does and what each plan includes, see [Social videos](/help/create/social-videos).
