# Set up your project and get your proof live

Follow the four steps on a new project's Setup page to get a testimonial, publish a widget and see it on your own site.

A new project opens on its **Setup** page, **Get your proof live**. It lists four steps that end with your customers' words on your own site. You never tick a step yourself: each one ticks when the thing it describes has happened.

A new project has no form and no widget yet. The steps make both, with one click each. What it does come with is a **Wall of Love** page, as a draft: see [Create your first project](/help/getting-started/create-your-first-project#what-happens-next).

The workspace owner and Admins see **Setup**, at the top of the project's sidebar. The steps come in one of two orders, depending on what you chose for **Where is your proof today?** when you created the project. This guide follows the order for **Still with my customers**. For the other three choices, see [If you start with testimonials you already have](#if-you-start-with-testimonials-you-already-have).

1. **Ask for your first testimonials**

Click **Create my collection form**. The project gets a form named **Testimonial form**, and the step shows its link.

Click **Copy link**, or pick **Email**, **Chat** or **After support** and click **Copy message** to copy a short request with the link in it. Replace `{first name}` with your customer's name, then send it from your own mail or chat. Nothing is sent for you.

Under the link, the step says how often it was opened in the last 30 days. The step ticks when the first answer arrives. To change the form's questions, click **Edit the form**: see [Build a collection form](/help/collect/build-a-collection-form).

2. **Publish a widget**

Click **Create and publish my widget**. It makes a carousel named **Testimonials** that picks up every testimonial you approve, and publishes it. You can change its style at any time: click **Open it in the builder**.

You don't have to wait for a testimonial first. A published widget with nothing to show draws nothing on your page.

If the project already has a draft widget of your own, the step doesn't change it. It links to the widget's builder, where you publish it yourself: see [Publish, update or unpublish a widget](/help/display/publish-update-or-unpublish-a-widget). A published Wall of Love ticks this step too.

3. **Add it to your site**

Under **Where does your site live?**, pick your site builder to get a link to its guide. Then click **Copy the code** and paste it into your page where the testimonials should appear, or click **Copy a note for my developer** to copy the code with a short explanation for whoever edits your site.

**On Notion** there's no code to copy, because Notion doesn't run it. Notion shows a widget through its Embed URL, which is in the widget's builder under **Get code**, so the step offers **Open the widget in its builder** instead. See [Show testimonials in Notion](/help/display/show-testimonials-in-notion).

**With a Wall of Love instead of a widget:** while the project has a published Wall of Love and no published widget, the step offers **Open Wall of Love**, where the wall's embed code is.

The step ticks the first time the widget, or the embedded wall, is seen on your site, and then says where: **Seen on** followed by your site's address. See [What counts as seen](#what-counts-as-seen).

4. **Approve your first testimonial**

When a customer answers your form, their testimonial waits for your review. The step shows it, with **Approve and show it**. Click it, and your widget starts showing that testimonial.

To review everything that's waiting, open **Pending** in the sidebar: see [Approve, reject and archive testimonials](/help/manage/approve-reject-and-archive).

## What happens next

The first time your widget is seen on your site, the page says that your proof is live, and everyone who can manage the project's widgets gets a notification. From then on the project opens on its inbox. **Setup** stays in the sidebar, with the number of steps left.

When all four steps are done, the page reads **Setup is finished** and **Setup** leaves the sidebar.

While a project still opens on its Setup page, its card on the **Projects** page shows how far it is, such as **Setup, 2 of 4**, with **Finish setup**.

To switch the notification off, see [Manage your notifications](/help/account/notifications): it's listed there as **Seen on your site**.

## If you start with testimonials you already have

If you chose **In emails, chats or screenshots**, **In another testimonial tool** or **On Google or G2**, the first step is about bringing in what you have, and asking customers comes last:

- **Add one you already have** has **Add a testimonial**, which opens your inbox. See [Add a testimonial by hand](/help/manage/add-a-testimonial-by-hand).
- **Bring your testimonials across** has **Import my file**, which opens the import with **Auto-approve imported testimonials** already on and a **Back to setup** link. See [Import testimonials from CSV, Excel or JSON](/help/import/import-from-csv-excel-or-json).
- **Bring in the reviews you already have** has **Find my Google reviews**, which opens **Review Platforms**. See [Import Google reviews](/help/import/import-google-reviews).

Whatever you add waits for your review unless it was approved as it came in. The step shows the first one that's waiting, with **Approve and show it**, and ticks when a testimonial is approved. The next two steps are the same: **Publish a widget** and **Add it to your site**. The last one, **Ask for new ones**, is the collection form described above.

## Change where you start, or hide setup

You can change your answer to **Where is your proof today?** at any time. Click **Change where I start** under the steps and choose again. The steps are then listed in the order for your new answer, starting with its own first step. For example, if you chose **Still with my customers** and already have reviews on Google, choose **On Google or G2**: the first step becomes **Bring in the reviews you already have**. Nothing you made is removed, and steps that are done stay done.

Click **Hide setup** if you'd rather find your own way. **Setup** leaves the sidebar and the project opens on its inbox. It doesn't come back for that project, so hide it only when you're sure. Everything the steps do stays available on its own page: Forms, Widgets, Import and Review Platforms.

## What counts as seen

**Add it to your site** ticks when a visitor has had at least half of your widget on screen for a second, on a page of your own site. A widget taller than the window, such as a long grid or list, counts once it has covered half of the window that long. An embedded Wall of Love counts the first time it is viewed. So after you paste the code:

- **Approve a testimonial first.** A widget with nothing to show draws nothing, so there's nothing to see yet. Until it is seen, the step reads **Not seen on your site yet**.
- **Open your page and scroll to the widget.** A newly approved testimonial shows on the next visit to your page, which can take a few minutes.
- **Use your real site.** Views on `localhost` don't count.

The Setup page checks again by itself every half minute while you have it open. If the widget doesn't appear on your page at all, see [Widget not showing on your website](/help/troubleshooting/widget-not-showing).
