# Move your testimonials from Senja or Testimonial.to

Bring your testimonials over from Senja or Testimonial.to as a CSV file, and copy their photos and videos before you close your old account.

If you're switching from Senja or Testimonial.to, you bring your testimonials over as a CSV file. The workspace owner and Admins can import.

> **Warning:** Finish this page before you close your old account. Your file holds only the addresses of your photos and videos, wherever they're stored today. Pictures are copied only when **Download image URLs** is on, and only while those addresses still work. Video files are never copied.

1. **Export from your old tool**

In your old tool, export your testimonials as a CSV file, and save the video files you want to keep to your computer. For the steps, see that tool's own help.

2. **Create your tags**

If your file has tags, create them in your project first: in **Pending** or **Approved**, click **Options**, then **Manage tags**. A tag your project doesn't have is left off the testimonial, with the warning "Unknown tags will be skipped".

Tags from a file are saved in lowercase, so create each one in lowercase. You can rename it afterwards. See [Organize testimonials with tags](/help/manage/tag-testimonials).

3. **Upload the file and check the columns**

In your project, click **Import** under **Collect** in the sidebar, upload your file and click **Parse File**. [Import testimonials from CSV, Excel or JSON](/help/import/import-from-csv-excel-or-json) covers each screen of the import.

Under **Map your columns**, the importer matches the column names of its two presets, sample CSV files with the names it expects from each tool:

   | Field | Senja preset | Testimonial.to preset |
   | ----------------------- | ------------------- | --------------------- |
   | **User Name** | `submitterName` | `User name` |
   | **User Email** | `submitterEmail` | `User email` |
   | **User Title** | `submitterJobTitle` | `User title` |
   | **Company** | `customer_company` | no column |
   | **User Avatar** | `submitterAvatar` | `User avatar` |
   | **Testimonial Content** | `text` | `Review body` |
   | **Rating** | `rating` | `Rating` |
   | **Title** | `testimonial_title` | `Review title` |
   | **Video URL** | `video_url` | `Video URL` |
   | **Tags** | `tags` | `Tags` |
   | **Source URL** | `url` | `Source Link URL` |
   | **Attached Images** | `images` | no column |
   | **Testimonial Date** | `date` | `Review date` |

With these names, nothing needs mapping by hand. Capital letters, spaces, dashes and underscores make no difference. If your file names a column another way, pick it from the list beside its field. To see a preset, open **Need a template or migrating from another platform?** above the upload box and click **Download** under the tool's name.

A column with no field here, such as `integration` in the Senja preset, isn't imported unless you map it to one of your project's [custom fields](/help/manage/custom-fields) (Pro, Premium and Business).

4. **Turn on Download image URLs**

Click **Validate Data**. Under **Import Options**, turn on **Download image URLs**. It starts off.

   - **On:** each picture under **User Avatar**, **Company Logo** and **Attached Images** is fetched from the address in your file, and a copy is stored with your project.
   - **Off:** only the address is saved. Your inbox, widgets and Wall of Love pages load each picture from that address, so it disappears when the picture is removed there.

Every row gets the same status: **Pending**, unless you change **Default status** or turn on **Auto-approve imported testimonials**. The import doesn't read a status from your file.

5. **Test one row, then import the rest**

Click **Test Import (1 row)** and open the testimonial in your inbox. Check its name, photo, date and stars. Then click **Run full import**, or **Adjust mapping** if something is wrong.

## Check that your pictures were copied

A picture stays a link when it can't be copied, for example when its address returns an error or takes too long, when what comes back isn't an image, or when the file is over the size limit named under the option. The import's results don't list these pictures.

To check one, open it in a new browser tab. If its address is still the one from your file, it wasn't copied. Save it and upload it in the testimonial's **Edit** window: see [Edit a testimonial](/help/manage/edit-a-testimonial).

If you imported with the option off, importing the file again doesn't add the pictures: with **Skip duplicates** on, its rows are skipped and counted under **Duplicates**. On Pro, Premium and Business, [**Rollback import** under **History**](/help/import/undo-or-re-run-a-file-import#roll-back-an-import) deletes the testimonials the first import created, so you can import them again. Or import again with **Update existing by source URL** on too: a row whose source URL matches one testimonial in your project replaces its details with the file's, pictures included.

## Move your videos

A row with an address under **Video URL** becomes a video testimonial that holds only that address: the video file isn't copied. Whenever someone presses play, in your inbox or in a widget, the video is loaded from that address, so it stops playing when the file is removed there. The testimonial itself stays. The address has to be a direct link to a video file: a link to a YouTube, Vimeo or Loom page is left out with a warning, and you add it under [Media Platforms](/help/import/video-and-audio-imports) instead.

To keep a video, upload its file: in your inbox, click **Options**, then **Add a video**, and choose the file (WebM, MP4 or MOV, within your plan's [video limits](/help/collect/video-testimonials#limits-by-plan)). ReTestimonial then keeps its own copy. See [Add a testimonial by hand](/help/manage/add-a-testimonial-by-hand#other-ways-to-add-one-yourself).

If you'll upload your videos, set **Video URL** to **— Select column —** before you click **Validate Data**, so they aren't added twice. Rows with text then come in as written testimonials, and a row with no text is skipped with an error.

A video on a video site, such as YouTube or Vimeo, belongs under **Media Platforms**, which plays it in that site's own player. See [Video and audio imports](/help/import/video-and-audio-imports).

## Ratings, dates and text

- **Rating:** a number from 1 to 5. A decimal is rounded to the nearest star, and a row with no rating is imported without stars.
- **Date:** a date written year-month-day, such as 2024-01-15, is read as written. If your file writes dates another way, check the date on your test row. A date the importer can't read is left off, with a warning.
- **Text:** saved as plain text. HTML tags in your file are removed.

## Plan limits

- **File type:** Free accepts CSV files; Pro, Premium and Business accept CSV, XLSX and JSON.
- **Rows in one import:** 25 on Free, 100 on Pro, 500 on Premium and unlimited on Business. A file with more rows is refused, so split it into smaller files.
- **Testimonials:** Free holds 10 written and 2 video testimonials across your workspace. Pro holds 10 video testimonials in each project. A row with a video address counts as a video testimonial. Rows past a limit aren't imported and show as errors in the results.

## What happens next

- **Approve what you want to show.** Widgets and Wall of Love pages show only approved testimonials. See [Approve, reject and archive testimonials](/help/manage/approve-reject-and-archive).
- **Replace the code on your website.** Importing doesn't change what your site shows. Create a widget here, copy its code and paste it where your old tool's code is now. See [Embed a widget on any website](/help/display/embed-a-widget-on-any-website).
- **Collect new testimonials here.** See [Build a collection form](/help/collect/build-a-collection-form).
- **Close the old account last,** once your pictures are copied, your videos are uploaded and your site shows the new widgets.
