Use your own domain for forms and your Wall of Love
Serve a project's collection forms and Wall of Love from a subdomain you own, such as reviews.yourbrand.com, by adding one DNS record.
Put a project's collection forms and Wall of Love on a subdomain of your own website, such as reviews.yourbrand.com, so the links your customers see carry your brand. Custom domains are on Pro, Premium and Business, with one domain per project. The workspace owner and the project's Admins can connect one.
Choose a subdomain
Pick a subdomain of a domain you own, such as reviews.yourbrand.com or love.yourbrand.com. It has to be a subdomain: a bare domain such as yourbrand.com isn't supported. If your domain has a two-part ending such as .co.uk, the subdomain is reviews.yourbrand.co.uk. Choose one you don't use for anything else, because once it's connected it shows only your ReTestimonial pages.
Connect it
In your project, click the gear icon next to the project's name at the bottom of the sidebar to open Project Settings, then click Domain. Enter the subdomain and click Connect domain.
The domain appears with the status Waiting for DNS, along with the DNS record to add.
Add the DNS record
Sign in to the service that manages your domain's DNS (often the company you bought the domain from) and add the record marked Required — points your domain at us:
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
CNAME | your subdomain, such as reviews.yourbrand.com | domains.retestimonial.com |
Copy the Name and Value with the buttons beside them. Some DNS providers want only the first part of the name (reviews) and add the rest themselves. If your provider can proxy the record, "DNS only" is the simplest setup.
The page may also list TXT records marked Optional. You don't need them for a normal setup. Add them only if you want the domain verified and its certificate ready before you point the CNAME at ReTestimonial, for example when you're moving the subdomain away from another service.
Wait for it to connect
DNS changes can take up to an hour to spread. ReTestimonial checks the domain every few minutes on its own, and you can click Check status at any time.
Once the record is found, the status moves to Verifying while the SSL certificate is issued, then to Connected, with SSL active. You get a notification when it's connected, and Visit opens the domain.
What each status means
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Waiting for DNS | The CNAME record hasn't been found yet. | Check the record at your DNS provider, wait, then click Check status. |
| Verifying | The record was found and the certificate is being issued. | Nothing: it moves to Connected on its own. |
| Connected | The domain is live, with SSL. | Nothing. |
| Failed | The record wasn't found within 14 days, or something at your domain blocks the certificate. The reason is shown on the page. | Fix what the message describes, then click Retry. |
| Disconnected | The domain was connected, but its record has been changed or removed. | Put the CNAME record back, then click Retry. |
| Disabled | The domain was switched off, for example because your plan no longer includes custom domains. | Fix the cause, then click Re-enable. See Custom domain not connecting. |
You get a notification whenever a domain fails, disconnects or is disabled. If your domain doesn't reach Connected, or Connect domain shows a message, see Custom domain not connecting.
What changes once it's connected
Your domain serves:
/: the project's default collection form;/followed by a form's slug: that form;/love/followed by a Wall of Love's slug: that wall.
The links you copy in the dashboard, such as a form's link and QR code or a Wall of Love's link, switch to your domain, and so do the form links in invite emails. Your existing retestimonial.com links keep working. Widget embed codes and testimonial share pages don't change.
Remove the domain
On the Domain page, click Remove, then Remove domain. Links that use your domain, such as ones you've shared or emailed, stop working; your pages stay available at their retestimonial.com addresses. You can then delete the CNAME record at your DNS provider.
To switch to a different subdomain, remove the current one and connect the new one.
