Save testimonials with the browser extension

Capture a review or post from any web page with the ReTestimonial extension for Chrome, and save it to a project for you to approve.

The ReTestimonial extension for Chrome saves testimonials you come across while browsing, such as a review on Capterra or a post on X, straight into one of your projects. It works on every plan.

Install the extension

Install the ReTestimonial extension from the Chrome Web Store, where it's listed as ReTestimonial: Capture Testimonials. In ReTestimonial, the Browser Extension card on the Capterra, Trustpilot and Yelp tabs of a project's Review Platforms page links to it, and so does Get the extension under Connected browsers in your account's Security settings until you connect a browser.

Its icon goes in the browser's toolbar. If you can't see it, Chrome may have tucked it under Extensions; Chrome's Install and manage extensions page shows how to pin it.

Connect your browser

Click the ReTestimonial icon. The extension opens in a panel beside the page and stays open while you browse. Click Connect.

A ReTestimonial window opens. Sign in to your account if you're asked to, then click Connect there. The window closes and the panel shows your projects. You never type a password into the extension.

Choose a project

When you have more than one project, pick the one to save to at the top of the panel. The extension remembers it, and a capture you start with a shortcut or from the right-click menu goes to it too. The list shows only the projects where you can add testimonials, so projects where you're a Viewer aren't in it.

Capture the testimonial

On the Capture tab, use whichever fits what you found:

  • Pick reviews. On a page of reviews or posts, the panel says how many it found. Click Pick reviews, then click each review you want on the page or tick it in the panel. Select all takes every one, and Select all 5-star, when only some are five-star, takes those. A review or post that has pictures shows a small picture mark with their number beside its name. When you're done, click the button at the bottom of the panel to add them to the queue.
  • Selection. Select the testimonial's text on the page, then click Selection. Or right-click the selected text and choose Add selection to ReTestimonial.
  • Any element. Click Any element, then click the review on the page. Press the up arrow to widen the outline, Enter to pick it and Esc to cancel.
  • Area. Click Area and drag over the part of the page you want, or press Enter to take the whole view. The extension takes a picture of it, and Read with AI can read the words from the picture. Press Esc to cancel.
  • Type it in. Click Type it in and write the testimonial yourself.

A testimonial needs at least 5 characters and the author's name.

Check the details and save

A capture opens in a form. When you pick several reviews at once, they go to the Queue tab instead: click one there to open its form, or save the ready ones together, as "The queue" below describes. Check the form, then click Save to Pending:

  • Quote and Name are required.
  • Title, Role, Company, Handle, Email, Rating, Date and Source link are optional. A capture set to No rating is saved without one.
  • Project, shown when you have more than one, is where this capture goes. Changing it clears the capture's tags and custom fields.
  • The author's photo, when the page shows one, is copied when you save. To save without it, click Leave it out beside it.
  • Pictures shows the pictures that came with the post or review. They're attached to the testimonial when you save. To save without a picture, click the × on it.
  • Tags lets you add tags your project already uses.
  • Custom fields shows your project's custom fields, when your plan includes them.

To finish later, click Keep in queue. To drop the capture, click Remove.

What's filled in for you

On X, LinkedIn, G2, Trustpilot, Capterra, Yelp and Google Maps the extension reads the post or review from the page: its text, the author's name and, where the page shows them, the title, the author's role, company and photo, the rating, the date and the link to that post or review. Many other review pages publish their reviews in a form the extension can read too, and the panel counts those as well.

A G2 review is the reviewer's answers to several questions. The extension takes the answer to what they like best as the quote, and leaves out what they dislike.

A LinkedIn post gets its date and a link of its own only where LinkedIn's page names the post: on the post's own page, or when the post is a video. Captured from a feed, a post has no date and its source link is the page you were on. To get both, open the post on its own page first (in the post's menu, Copy link to post, then open that link) and capture it there.

When you capture a selection or an element on any other site, you get the text and the page's address. Fill in the rest yourself, or use Read with AI.

If the page shows only part of a long post, the form says so, and so does the capture's row in the queue. Open the full post and capture it again, or finish the quote by hand. On Google Maps you don't need to: when you add a review that Google cut short, the extension opens the rest of it for you.

A date is filled in only when the page writes it in a way that can be read one way. A date such as 05.12.2024, which could be 5 December or 12 May, is left for you to enter under Date.

Read with AI

Read with AI reads the part of the page your capture came from, such as the review or post around the words you picked or selected, and fills in the name, role, company, rating and date it finds there. For a capture you took with Area it reads the picture, the text included. What it fills in is marked Suggested so you can check it. It never rewrites the quote. It may also suggest some of your project's tags, shown under Tags with "(suggested)" after their name; click one to add it.

A testimonial you typed in has no page behind it, so there is nothing for AI to read and the button is off. To have the name, rating and date filled in, capture the review from its page with Any element or Area.

Your workspace has a number of AI readings each day, which depends on your plan, and one person can make up to 60 readings in an hour. The panel shows how many are left next to the button. They start again at midnight UTC.

The queue

Every capture waits in the Queue tab until you save it. The queue is kept on your device, so it's still there after you close the panel or lose your connection.

Each row says where it stands: Ready, what it still needs, Saved to Pending, or Already in your inbox. When you have more than one project, each row also names its project. A capture with pictures shows a small picture mark with their number. Rows that are Ready are ticked for you: untick any you want to keep for later, then click the save button at the bottom to save the rest together. Saved rows stay in the list for up to a day, or until you click Clear … finished rows under the save button.

When ReTestimonial can't take a save, for example because the project is read-only, the captures stay in the queue and the panel says why.

A post or review you captured before isn't saved twice, and neither is a quote the project already has from the same author. Its row says Already in your inbox.

When a page identifies each of its reviews or posts, picking one that is still waiting in the queue for the same project updates its row instead of adding a second one. The row takes what the page shows now, such as the rest of a text the site had cut, and keeps everything you changed. On a page that doesn't identify its reviews, picking one again adds another row; click Remove on the one you don't need.

The author's photo and the pictures on a post or on a Google Maps or Yelp review are copied from the page's site when you save. When one can't be copied, the testimonial is saved without it and its row says so.

Attach a screenshot

For a capture taken from a page, turn on Attach a screenshot of the original in its form to save a picture of the post or review with the testimonial, as an attached image. Switch it on while that page is still open and on screen: the extension photographs the post or review where it is on the page. A capture made with Area attaches its picture already. Attached images can show on your widgets, and you can remove one when you edit the testimonial.

A testimonial holds up to 10 images, and the screenshot is one of them. When a post has 10 pictures and you attach a screenshot too, the screenshot and the first 9 pictures are saved, and the capture's row says so.

When the panel can't read a page

The browser lets the extension read X, LinkedIn, G2, Trustpilot, Capterra and Yelp as soon as it's installed. While the panel is open and you're connected, the extension reads the page you're looking at on those sites, and on any site you allowed, so it can list the reviews it found. It reads nothing while the panel is closed, and what it reads stays in your browser until you save a capture or use Read with AI. The Privacy Policy says what the extension sends and how long it's kept.

On every other site, Google Maps included, it reads a page only after you ask it to on that tab. When the panel says ReTestimonial has not been asked to read this tab, click the ReTestimonial icon in the toolbar while you're on that tab. The panel can then read the page, and offers Always allow on with the site's name, so you don't have to click the icon there again. The sites you allowed are listed under Settings, where you can remove them.

Some pages show their reviews a moment after they load, or more of them as you scroll. If the panel says No reviews found on this page on a page that has them, or misses some, click Read again.

The extension can't read the browser's own pages, such as a new tab or its settings. You can still use Type it in there.

Shortcuts

  • Alt+Shift+K picks reviews on the page.
  • Alt+Shift+S captures the selected text.
  • Alt+Shift+G captures an area.

If another extension already uses one of these keys, the browser leaves that shortcut unset. The Settings tab shows each shortcut's key, or Not set. Click Change shortcuts there to choose your own.

Right-clicking a page also offers Pick reviews on this page and Capture an area for ReTestimonial.

Settings and signing out

On the Settings tab:

  • Default project: the project new captures go to until you pick another at the top of the panel.
  • Sites you allowed: the sites you let the extension read, each with a button to remove it.
  • Sign out: disconnects this browser and clears the queue on this device.

You can also disconnect a browser from ReTestimonial itself: open your account's Settings, then Security, and click Remove next to it under Connected browsers. A browser that goes a long time without using the extension is disconnected too; the Privacy Policy gives the number of days.

Signing out of ReTestimonial on the web doesn't disconnect the extension. Sign out all other devices does: it disconnects every browser except one you connected since you last signed in on the device you're using. So does changing your password with Sign out other devices switched on, or resetting it. Sign out next to one device under Signed-in devices disconnects the browsers you connected while signed in on that device.

What happens next

Each testimonial you save arrives in your project's inbox under Pending, like any new testimonial. Approve it there to show it in your widgets and on your Wall of Love.

On the Free plan, each save counts toward the 10 text testimonials your workspace can hold. Once you reach it, the row says so and nothing is saved.
