Import posts and reels from Instagram

Paste the link to an Instagram post or reel to import its caption, author and images as a testimonial you can approve and show.

When a customer praises you in an Instagram post or reel, you can turn it into a testimonial. You paste the post's link, ReTestimonial fetches the caption, the author and the images, and you check them before you import. Importing from Instagram is available on Premium and Business.

Before you start

  • Copy the post's link. On Instagram, open the post, click Options and then Copy link. Instagram explains this, for the app too, in Get a link to a photo or video.
  • Use a post or reel link. Links to posts (instagram.com/p/…) and reels (instagram.com/reel/…) work. Profiles, stories and other Instagram links don't.
  • You need import access. Only teammates who can manage imports see Social Media in the sidebar.

Open Social Media

In your project, open Social Media under Collect in the sidebar, then click Import from URL.

Fetch the post

Paste the link into Post URL and click Fetch. Fetching an Instagram post can take a little while.

Check the preview

The preview fills in Name (the account's name, or its username when there's none), the account's handle and Post Content (the caption). Instagram's pictures don't show in the preview. Instead, it tells you what comes with the post:

  • Profile picture will be imported, when the account's photo was found;
  • the number of images, such as 1 image will be imported;
  • Video will be linked, not downloaded. for a reel or a video post.

You can edit Name and Post Content, and add the author's Title (optional) and Company (optional), which Instagram doesn't provide. If the post has no caption, type the testimonial text into Post Content.

Import it

Tick Approve & add to Wall of Love to approve the post and add it to your default Wall of Love straight away. Leave it unticked to import it as Pending. Then click Import Testimonial.

What you get

  • The caption becomes the testimonial text, with the author's name, handle and profile picture, the post's images and the date it was posted. The like and comment counts show on its card.
  • A reel or video post becomes a video testimonial. The video stays on Instagram: ReTestimonial keeps its thumbnail, and the play button on the card opens the post on Instagram.
  • Only the caption is imported, not the comments under the post.

The testimonial appears on the Social Media page (click Instagram to see only Instagram posts) and under All Imports in the sidebar. Unless you approved it on import, approve it under Pending in the sidebar, or with Approve on its card. To change the text later, open the card's menu and choose Edit.

If a picture couldn't be copied, you'll see Testimonial imported with warnings with what's missing, such as Author avatar could not be downloaded. The testimonial is imported all the same.

If the import doesn't work

  • A reason, then "You can enter the details by hand below." ReTestimonial couldn't read the post, for example because it was deleted or its account is private: Instagram shows a private account's posts only to its followers. You can still type the text and name and import it, but no pictures come with it. A reel entered this way is still a video that opens on Instagram, without a thumbnail.
  • Unsupported URL. Please use a Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, or TikTok post URL. The link isn't to a post or a reel. Copy it again from the post itself.
  • This social media post has already been imported to this project. Each post can be imported once per project. The message can add that the earlier copy is in Spam or Archived, which the Social Media page doesn't show.
  • Too many preview requests. Please wait a moment before trying again. Wait a little, then try again.
  • This project has reached its hourly import limit. Try again later. Each project can run up to 30 social media imports an hour.
  • Content needs at least 5 characters or Author name is required. Fill in Post Content and Name.

If your plan doesn't include social imports, the page shows Upgrade to import instead of Import from URL. Posts you imported earlier stay on the page, and you can still manage them.
