Import videos from TikTok

Paste the link to a TikTok video and import it as a video testimonial that plays from TikTok in your widgets and on your Wall of Love.

When a customer talks about you in a TikTok video, you can add that video to ReTestimonial as a testimonial. You paste its link, check what ReTestimonial fetched and import it. The video itself stays on TikTok. Importing from social media is available on Premium and Business.

You import one video at a time. Links to a profile or to a photo post can't be imported.

Before you start

Copy the video's link. In the TikTok app, go to the video, tap the Share button on the side of it and choose to copy the link. On a computer, open the video's own page on tiktok.com and copy the address from your browser. TikTok explains sharing in Sharing on TikTok.

These links work:

  • the full link, like https://www.tiktok.com/@username/video/1234567890, with or without extra text after the number;
  • a short link from the app that starts with https://vm.tiktok.com/, https://vt.tiktok.com/ or https://www.tiktok.com/t/.

Use the full link when you can. A video imported from a short link can't play on your site, only open on TikTok (see "How the video plays on your site" below). Paste the whole link, starting with https://.

Open Social Media

In your project, open Social Media under Collect in the sidebar, then click Import from URL.

Fetch the video

Paste the link into Post URL and click Fetch.

Check the details

ReTestimonial fills in the creator's Name and @handle and puts the video's caption in Post Content. When it finds the creator's profile picture, you see Profile picture will be imported.

The Post Content becomes the testimonial's text. If the caption is only hashtags, replace it with what the customer says in the video. Add Title (optional) and Company (optional) yourself if you know them; TikTok doesn't provide them.

Import it

To publish the video right away, tick Approve & add to Wall of Love. It's approved and added to your project's default Wall of Love. Leave it unticked to import it as Pending.

Click Import Testimonial.

What comes in from TikTok

  • A video testimonial with the caption (or your text), the creator's name, @handle and a link to their TikTok profile.
  • The creator's profile picture and the video's thumbnail, copied into ReTestimonial.
  • When ReTestimonial can read them, the date the video was posted and its like and comment counts.

The video isn't copied: the dialog says Video will be linked, not downloaded. TikTok videos have no star rating, so the testimonial has none.

If the picture or thumbnail can't be copied, you see Testimonial imported with warnings. The rest is imported. A video card without a thumbnail shows the TikTok logo instead.

The testimonial appears on the Social Media page (click TikTok to see only TikTok videos) and under All Imports in the sidebar. To approve a Pending one, click Approve on its card, or approve it in your inbox.

How the video plays on your site

In a widget or on your Wall of Love, the testimonial is a video card: the thumbnail with a play button and the TikTok logo. By default, clicking it opens the video on TikTok in a new tab.

To play it on your page in TikTok's own player instead, open the widget's Design tab, choose Video Cards and set Social Video Behavior to Play inline (embed from platform). Some video styles offer Play in modal (embed from platform) instead. The Wall of Love builder has the same setting under Design > Video Cards.

A video imported from a short link always opens on TikTok, whatever this setting says. To play it on your page, delete its testimonial and import the video again from its full link.

Each video is imported once

A video can be imported once per project. When you import it again, you see This social media post has already been imported to this project. That's true even if the testimonial is archived or marked as spam; the message then says which. To import the video again, delete its testimonial first.

Who can import

Only the workspace owner and teammates with the Admin role see Social Media in the sidebar and can import videos.

On other plans, the page shows Upgrade to import instead of Import from URL. Videos you imported earlier stay on the page, and you can still manage them.
