Quick answers to common questions about widgets. Each one links to the article with the full steps.

How many widgets can I create?

The number of widgets per project depends on your plan: 2 on Free, 10 on Pro, 20 on Premium and unlimited on Business. Archived widgets count too, and the line under Create Widget on the Widgets page shows your usage.

Carousel, Masonry Grid, Badge and Video widgets are available on every plan, and the other types on Pro, Premium and Business. See Choose a widget type. Every plan's limits are in Plan limits.

What is the difference between unpublishing, archiving and deleting a widget?

All three take the widget off your website within a few minutes. Visitors see nothing in its place, or This widget is unavailable if you used the iframe code. Only deleting is permanent, and only deleting frees a slot under your plan's widget limit.

ActionTo bring it backCounts toward your plan's widgets
UnpublishPublishYes
ArchiveRestore, then PublishYes
DeleteCan't be undoneNo

All three are in the widget's menu on the Widgets page, and the builder has Unpublish Widget in the menu next to Get code. Unpublishing, and archiving a widget that is live, ask you to confirm first. An archived widget is listed only on the Archived tab, and Restore brings it back as a draft with its design and testimonials. An archived widget can't be published until it's restored. Publishing it again makes the code already on your site work again, with no new code. A deleted widget's code never works again, though its testimonials stay in your project.

Only the workspace owner and project Admins can do this. If your plan doesn't include the widget's type, it can't be published again until you upgrade or switch its type. See Take a widget off your site and Widget not showing on your website.

Can I see my widgets as a list or a table?

Yes. On the Widgets page, the three buttons beside the status tabs switch between Grid view, List view and Table view. The grid shows a large picture of each widget, the list shows one widget per row, and the table fits the most widgets on screen, with a column for each detail. In the table, click a column heading such as Name or Updated to sort by it, and click it again to reverse the order.

Your choice is remembered in that browser. When the page is narrow, as on a phone or beside the open Help panel in a small window, the table isn't offered and the list is shown in its place.

Every view has the same actions for each widget: Edit, a button that fits its state (Copy embed, Publish or Restore) and a menu with the rest. See Customize a widget and Publish, update or unpublish a widget.

What is the picture on each widget on the Widgets page?

It's a picture of the widget itself, with your testimonials and your design, as a visitor sees it when the page loads. A floating widget, such as a Proof Toast or a Proof Bar, is shown where it sits on a sample page. Drafts have one too.

The picture follows your changes: after you edit a widget, a new one is taken shortly after you return to the Widgets page. Renaming or publishing a widget doesn't take a new one, because the widget looks the same. To take one yourself, open the widget's menu and choose Refresh preview. An archived widget isn't photographed again until you restore it.

A widget with nothing to show yet, such as one with no approved testimonials, keeps a drawing of its style, and a new widget shows the drawing until its first picture arrives. A picture only shows approved testimonials: when one of them is deleted, rejected, archived or edited, the picture is removed at once, and a new one is taken the next time you open the Widgets page.

Will a widget slow down my website?

The embed code starts with a small loader script, under 14 KB, which loads without holding up the rest of your page. A widget further down the page starts loading only when a visitor scrolls near it. See Embed a widget on any website.

Can search engines see the testimonials in my widget?

A widget draws its testimonials with a script after your page loads, so they aren't part of your page's HTML. Search engines that don't run scripts won't see them.

The Star rating snippet switch, on the widget builder's Settings tab, adds schema.org rating markup to your page for star ratings in search results. It's available on Business, and it's added by the same script, so it works with the Script code but not the iframe code. See Customize a widget.

Your Wall of Love's hosted page is an ordinary web page instead, with its testimonials in the page itself. Search engines can index it unless you turn on Hide from search engines. See Design your Wall of Love page.

Does the widget work on phones?

Yes. A widget takes the width of the space you put it in, up to its Max width, under Size on the Settings tab, and a Masonry Grid uses fewer columns when that space is narrow.

To check, click Mobile above the builder's preview, or click Preview in the top bar and switch the device there. If it looks different on your site, see Widget looks different on your website. See Customize a widget.

Can I remove the "Powered by" badge?

Yes, on Pro, Premium and Business. In the widget builder's Settings tab, turn off the Branding badge switch. On other plans the switch stays on and can't be changed. See Remove ReTestimonial branding.

Do I need new embed code after I edit a widget?

No. Once a widget is published, the builder saves your edits to the live widget, and your site picks them up within a few minutes with the same code.

The one exception is switching a widget that's already on your site to a style that floats over the page, such as Floating Proof. Get code then gives you new code to replace the old. See Publish, update or unpublish a widget.

Can I use one widget on several pages or websites?

Yes. The code isn't tied to one website, so you can paste the same code on several pages and sites. Every copy is the same widget, so each edit reaches all of them. To tell the places apart in your widget analytics, fill in a different Placement name before you copy the code for each one. See Embed a widget on any website.

To show different testimonials on different pages, create another widget, or use Proof Match on Premium and Business. See Set up Proof Match rules.

Why doesn't a new testimonial appear in my widget?

Check these in order:

  • It isn't approved yet. Widgets show only approved testimonials, and new ones usually wait in Pending. See Approve, reject and archive testimonials.
  • The widget uses Curate. A hand-picked list doesn't grow by itself. Click Add on the Content tab and add the testimonial. See Choose which testimonials a widget shows.
  • Auto-sync's rules leave it out. A minimum rating, a source or a tag rule can exclude it, and only the testimonials that fit under the Cap show, after ordering. No cap still stops at a built-in number, so to show more, type a larger number into the Cap box. See Fill a widget with auto-sync.
  • Your plan caps the widget. One widget shows at most 10 testimonials on Free and 50 on Pro.
  • It isn't a video. A Video widget shows only video testimonials.
  • Your site hasn't caught up. Changes can take a few minutes to reach your site. Reload the page after a while.

If the whole widget is missing, see Widget not showing on your website.

Does the widget have a dark mode?

Yes. On the Design tab, open Theme & Frame and pick a Theme: Light, Dark or Auto, which follows each visitor's dark-mode setting. A new widget starts on Light.

Light and Dark set the card and the text to match: a widget that still has its standard colours turns dark, card and all, when you choose Dark. Once you've picked a Card Background or a Text Color yourself, the theme leaves both as they are, so your text stays readable on your card.

Auto shows the standard dark card and text to visitors in dark mode, and the light ones to everyone else. If you've chosen your own card or text colour, Auto keeps it for every visitor and changes only the smaller details, such as borders and secondary text. For a widget that's dark for every visitor, choose Dark. See Customize a widget.

Can a widget show testimonials in my visitor's language?

Yes, on Business. Add translations to your testimonials in the inbox. Then, on the widget builder's Settings tab, open Translations & texts and choose Visitor's language or One fixed language. Testimonials without a translation show the original text.

To reword the widget's own text, such as "Read more", click Edit beside Widget texts in the same place. That's available on Pro, Premium and Business. See Translate testimonials.
