ImportVideo and audio platforms

Import videos from Vimeo

Paste a Vimeo video's link to add it as a video testimonial. It plays in Vimeo's own player in your widgets and on your Wall of Love.

Already have a customer video on Vimeo? Paste its link into ReTestimonial and it becomes a video testimonial you can show in widgets and on your Wall of Love. The video stays on Vimeo and plays in Vimeo's own player. Importing from Vimeo works on every plan, within your plan's testimonial limit.

Before you start

Copy the video's link on Vimeo: open the video, click Share, then click Copy link. Vimeo explains this in How to share my video.

ReTestimonial reads the video's number from the link, so it accepts these kinds of link:

  • https://vimeo.com/123456789, with or without www., and with extra text after the number such as ?share=copy;
  • https://player.vimeo.com/video/123456789, the address in the video's embed code;
  • an Unlisted video's link, which has an extra code after the number (vimeo.com/123456789/abc123def4, or ?h=abc123def4 on the player address). Keep the code: the video can't play without it.

Paste the whole link, starting with https://. These links aren't accepted:

  • a link to a video inside a showcase, channel or group (vimeo.com/showcase/…, vimeo.com/channels/…);
  • a custom link with a name instead of the number (vimeo.com/yourname/our-story).

Vimeo also has to let other websites show the video. ReTestimonial can import and play a Public video whose Where can this be embedded? setting is Anywhere; you find both after clicking Share on the video. A Private video, or one set to Nowhere, can't play on other websites. With Specific domains, Vimeo shows an error on every site that isn't on your list. Vimeo describes these settings in About video privacy settings and How to embed my video.

Open Media Platforms

In your project, open Media Platforms under Collect in the sidebar. The Video tab opens first. Click Import Video.

Preview the video

In the Import Video or Audio Testimonial dialog, paste the link into Video or Audio URL and click Preview (or press Enter). ReTestimonial fetches the video's title and thumbnail from Vimeo and shows them with a Vimeo badge. Check it's the right video, and read any warning above the thumbnail (see If something goes wrong).

Add the customer's details

Vimeo doesn't tell ReTestimonial who's speaking, so type the customer's name into Customer Name; it's required. You can also fill in Email (optional), Company (optional), Job Title (optional) and Rating (optional).

If the preview shows No thumbnail available, add a cover image under Upload a custom thumbnail: click Choose thumbnail image to upload a JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF, or click URL, paste a link to an image and click Add.

Import it

Status is Pending by default, so the video waits in your inbox until you approve it. Choose Approved to make it ready to show right away. Tick Approve & add to Wall of Love to approve it and add it to your project's default Wall of Love in one go; Status switches to Approved when you tick it.

Click Import Video. ReTestimonial confirms with "Testimonial imported successfully!".

What comes in from Vimeo

  • The video's title on Vimeo, which becomes the testimonial's text, and its thumbnail. A video with no title comes in as "Vimeo Video".
  • A link back to the video: View on Vimeo in the menu on the video's card.
  • The video itself stays on Vimeo; ReTestimonial doesn't copy it. In your widgets, on your Wall of Love and on share pages, it plays in Vimeo's own player. Vimeo's settings still apply, so if you delete the video on Vimeo or stop it from being embedded, it stops playing in ReTestimonial too.

ReTestimonial doesn't get the customer's photo, a rating or the video's upload date from Vimeo, and it adds no captions to the video.

A Vimeo video always plays from the beginning.

Find and edit it later

Imported Vimeo videos are listed on the Media Platforms page: on the Video tab, click Vimeo to see only them. They're also in Approved or Pending in your inbox, with your other testimonials, and under All Imports in the sidebar.

To change the customer's details, the rating or the thumbnail, open the menu on the video's card, choose Edit, make your changes and click Save Changes.

If something goes wrong

The import dialog shows what went wrong:

  • "Unsupported link. Paste a YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Wistia, Vidyard, Spotify, Apple Podcasts or SoundCloud link." means the link isn't one of the kinds listed in Before you start. Open the video itself on Vimeo and copy its link, or use the address from its embed code.
  • "Please enter a full link starting with https://" means the link doesn't start with https://. Paste the whole link.
  • "Only HTTPS URLs are allowed" means the link starts with http://. Change it to https://.
  • "This video is private or restricted" means Vimeo won't share the video with other websites. Check its privacy and its Where can this be embedded? setting on Vimeo.
  • "Video not found - it may have been deleted or the URL is invalid" means Vimeo couldn't find the video. Check the link, and that the video still exists on Vimeo. Vimeo answers the same way for an Unlisted video whose link has lost its code (Use oEmbed with private videos).
  • "This video may have embedding disabled by the uploader." You can still import the video, but it won't play in your widgets, on your Wall of Love or on share pages. If you import it anyway, the video's card on Media Platforms says so. After you allow embedding on Vimeo, open the card's menu and choose Check embedding again; the preview can take up to 15 minutes to see the change.
  • "Vimeo didn't return a thumbnail for this video." Add a thumbnail yourself, as in step 3.
  • "This video has already been imported to this project" means the project already has this video, whichever link it was imported with. If you can't see it on the Media Platforms page, the message says whether it's in Archived or Spam.
  • "Too many requests. Please wait a moment and try again." Wait a minute, then try again.

If none of these fits, see Import link not accepted.

Plan limits

Every plan can import from Vimeo. Each import is a link, so it counts toward the same limit as your written and audio testimonials, not toward your video testimonial limit: that one is for videos customers record or upload.

  • Free: 10 written, audio and linked media testimonials across your workspace.
  • Pro: unlimited.
  • Premium: unlimited.
  • Business: unlimited.

Rejected, archived and spam testimonials don't count. Once you've reached the limit, Import Video in the dialog shows a message instead of importing the video.

Only teammates with import access see Import Video. Everyone else can browse the Media Platforms page. See Invite team members.
