Import videos from Wistia

Paste a Wistia video's link to import it as a video testimonial that plays in Wistia's own player on your widgets and Wall of Love.

When a customer's video testimonial lives in your Wistia account, you can import it into ReTestimonial by its link. The video stays on Wistia: ReTestimonial saves its link, title and thumbnail, and plays it in Wistia's own player. Importing from Wistia is available on every plan.

ReTestimonial accepts these Wistia links:

  • the legacy media page URL, like https://youraccount.wistia.com/medias/abcde12345, on your account's own subdomain;
  • the iframe embed URL, like https://fast.wistia.net/embed/iframe/abcde12345. The same link on fast.wistia.com, or with /embed/medias/ in place of /embed/iframe/, works too.

The public share link from Wistia's Share modal, with /s/ in it, doesn't work, and neither does the address of the video's Manage page, which ends in /manage. The ID in a /s/ link isn't the video's ID, so swapping /s/ for /medias/ doesn't work either.

To get the /medias/ link, open the video in Wistia and copy its legacy media page URL from the Info section of its Manage page. Or copy the Manage page's address from your browser and delete /manage from the end. Wistia explains its link types in Wistia Share Links and Manage URLs.

Paste the whole link, starting with https://. It must end with the video's ID; anything after a ? is fine.

Open Media Platforms

In your project, open Media Platforms under Collect in the sidebar. Wistia videos are listed on the Enterprise tab. Click Import Video.

Preview the video

Paste the link into Video or Audio URL and click Preview. ReTestimonial shows the Wistia badge, the video's thumbnail and its title.

If Wistia sends no thumbnail, the preview says No thumbnail available. Add your own below it: click Upload to choose an image file, or URL to paste an image link.

Add the customer's details

ReTestimonial doesn't get the speaker's name from Wistia, so type it in Customer Name; it's required. Add Email (optional), Company (optional), Job Title (optional) and a Rating (optional) if you have them.

Import it

Status is Pending by default, so the video waits in your inbox until you approve it. Choose Approved to skip that. Tick Approve & add to Wall of Love to approve it and add it to your project's default Wall of Love in one go; Status switches to Approved when you tick it.

Click Import Video. You see Testimonial imported successfully!

What comes in from Wistia

  • The video's link, title and thumbnail. The title is also saved as the testimonial's text.
  • Nothing else: no transcript, no length, no speaker details. The video file isn't copied, so keep it in Wistia. If you delete it there, it stops playing in ReTestimonial.

How it plays

The video appears on the Enterprise tab of Media Platforms; click Wistia to see only Wistia videos. It's also in your inbox under Approved or Pending. Click the thumbnail to play it. The menu on its card has View on Wistia, and Edit to change the thumbnail, the Video Title, the customer's details and the rating.

In widgets and on your Wall of Love, the video plays in Wistia's player when a visitor clicks it.

A Wistia video always plays from the beginning: there's no start or end time to set for it. Only a YouTube import has those.

Limits

An imported Wistia video is a link, so it counts toward the same limit as your written and audio testimonials, not toward your video testimonial limit: that one is for videos customers record or upload. Archived, rejected and spam testimonials don't count.

  • Free: 10 written, audio and linked media testimonials across your workspace.
  • Pro: unlimited.
  • Premium: unlimited.
  • Business: unlimited.

When you reach the limit, the import stops with a message naming it.

A video can be imported once per project, whichever of its links you paste, even if its testimonial is archived or marked as spam.

Only the workspace owner and teammates with the Admin role see Import Video. Everyone else can view and play the videos.
