Import tracks from SoundCloud
Paste a SoundCloud track link to import it as an audio testimonial that plays in SoundCloud's own player in your widgets and on your Wall of Love.
When a customer's testimonial, interview or podcast episode is a track on SoundCloud, you can add it to ReTestimonial as a testimonial. You paste the track's link, check what ReTestimonial found and import it. The audio stays on SoundCloud and plays from there. You can import from SoundCloud on every plan; see "Plan limits" below for how tracks count.
You import one track at a time.
Before you start
Copy the track's link. On the SoundCloud website, open the track and click the Share button below its waveform, or copy the address of the track's page from your browser. SoundCloud explains this in Sharing a public track or playlist within SoundCloud.
A link to one public track works, like https://soundcloud.com/artist-name/track-name, with or without www. and with or without extra text after a ?. Paste the whole link, starting with https://.
These links don't work:
- a private track's secret link, which has an extra token at the end (Sharing a private track or playlist within SoundCloud). Make the track public and use its regular link;
- a short link that starts with
https://on.soundcloud.com/. The window says Short share links can't be read. Open the link in your browser, then copy the address from the address bar and paste that. Copy the full address of the track's page; - a link to a playlist, an album or a profile.
Open Media Platforms
In your project, open Media Platforms under Collect in the sidebar. Click the Podcasts tab, then Import Audio. The Import Video button on the other tabs opens the same window.
Preview the track
In the Import Video or Audio Testimonial window, paste the link into Video or Audio URL and click Preview. ReTestimonial fetches the track's title and artwork from SoundCloud and shows them under the SoundCloud label.
If a yellow warning appears, read "If the import doesn't work" below before you go on. When SoundCloud has no artwork for the track, you see No thumbnail available: upload an image under Upload a custom thumbnail:, or paste an image link after clicking URL.
Add the customer's details
Type the customer's name in Customer Name. It's required, and SoundCloud's uploader name isn't filled in for you. Email (optional), Company (optional), Job Title (optional) and Rating (optional) are up to you.
A SoundCloud track always plays from the beginning.
Import it
Status is Pending unless you change it to Approved. Tick Approve & add to Wall of Love to approve it and add it to your project's default Wall of Love in one go; Status switches to Approved when you tick it.
Click Import Audio. You see Testimonial imported successfully!
What comes in from SoundCloud
- The track's link, title and artwork. The title is also saved as the testimonial's text. If ReTestimonial can't read a title, it uses SoundCloud Audio.
- The customer's details and rating you typed.
The audio itself isn't copied into ReTestimonial.
The testimonial appears on the Podcasts tab of Media Platforms (click SoundCloud to see only SoundCloud tracks) and in your inbox under Approved or Pending. It's listed under All Imports in the sidebar as well.
Its card shows the artwork with a headphones button and an Audio label; click it to listen in SoundCloud's player. The card's menu has View on SoundCloud, Edit (the customer's details, rating and thumbnail) and Delete.
How the track plays on your site
In a widget or on your Wall of Love, the track is a video card: its artwork with a play button and the SoundCloud logo. Clicking play loads SoundCloud's own player.
To choose whether the player opens in a popup or plays inside the card, open the widget's Design tab, choose Video Cards and set Playback Mode to Modal or Inline. A Video widget has this setting in its Layout tab instead, under Shared Video Settings, and some styles fix the mode and don't let you change it. The Wall of Love builder has the same setting under Design > Video Cards.
Each link is imported once
A link can be imported once per project. When you import it again, you see This episode or track has already been imported to this project., even if its testimonial is archived; the message then says it's in Archived. To import it again, delete the testimonial first.
The check compares the track itself, so the same track pasted with different text after the ? is still caught.
If the import doesn't work
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| Unsupported link. Paste a YouTube, Vimeo, Loom, Wistia, Vidyard, Spotify, Apple Podcasts or SoundCloud link. | The link isn't a link to one track (see "Before you start"). |
| Short share links can't be read. Open the link in your browser, then copy the address from the address bar and paste that. | The link is a short on.soundcloud.com link. Open it and copy the track page's full address. |
| Please enter a full link starting with https:// | Paste the whole link, including https://. |
| This episode or track is private or restricted or Episode or track not found - it may have been deleted or the URL is invalid | SoundCloud says the track is private or gone, or the link is mistyped, so there's nothing to import. Fix the link or make the track public, then click Preview again. |
| A yellow warning starting Failed to fetch video data, or Request timed out | SoundCloud didn't answer in time. The window still lets you import with the details it could read from the track's page; check them, or click Preview again in a moment. |
| Author name is required | Type the customer's name in Customer Name. |
| Too many requests. Please wait a moment and try again. | You can preview up to 30 links and import up to 10 tracks a minute. Wait a minute, then try again. |
| A message that your plan allows a number of written, audio and linked media testimonials | You've reached your plan's limit (below). |
Plan limits
Each SoundCloud track is a link, so it counts toward the same limit as your written and audio testimonials, not toward your video testimonial limit: that one is for videos customers record or upload.
- Free: 10 written, audio and linked media testimonials across your workspace.
- Pro: unlimited.
- Premium: unlimited.
- Business: unlimited.
Archived, rejected and spam testimonials don't count toward the limit.
Who can import
Only the workspace owner and teammates with the Admin role see Import Audio and can import tracks. Other teammates see the page without it. Only owners and Admins can delete a track's testimonial, and Viewers can't edit one.
