Troubleshooting

Wall of Love not showing on your website

Find out why a Wall of Love's embed or hosted page doesn't show, from a draft wall to a changed link or a blocked script, and fix each cause.

If your Wall of Love doesn't appear on your website, or its link opens a page-not-found error, work through these checks in order. Open Wall of Love in the Share section of your project's sidebar: each wall's card shows most of what you need.

Check this first

A wall shows on your site and at its link only while it's published. On its card, the badge beside the name says Live or Draft.

  • Draft: click Publish on the card, or in the builder's top bar. While a wall is a draft, its embed shows nothing on your site, and its link shows a page-not-found error. The Embed Wall of Love dialog says when the wall isn't published. Publishing doesn't change the code.
  • Unpublished: a wall taken offline with Unpublish behaves like a draft until you publish it again. See Unpublish a wall.
  • Deleted: its code and link stop working for good. Create a new wall and replace the old code with the new wall's code. See Delete a wall.

When a project has more than one wall, the Drafts tab above the cards lists every wall that isn't live.

Make sure it has testimonials to show

A wall shows only approved testimonials, and archiving one takes it off every wall. Each card shows how many testimonials the wall holds. A wall with none says No testimonials or Empty draft beside its name, and when a project has more than one wall the Needs attention tab lists it. Its embed says "No testimonials available." and its hosted page "No testimonials to display yet."

Click Edit and open the Content tab:

  • Curate: tick at least one approved testimonial under Pick testimonials.
  • Auto-sync: make sure the rules match at least one approved testimonial. The preview shows what they pick.

See Choose and order the testimonials on a Wall of Love and Approve, reject and archive testimonials.

Check the code on your page

  • Paste all of it, unchanged. The code is a <div> with the class retestimonial-wall and a data-wall-key, and a <script> that loads the wall. If either one is missing or edited, nothing appears.
  • Check the live page. Some site builders strip scripts when you save, or show a placeholder in their editor. See Embed a widget on WordPress and the other guides in Embed a Wall of Love on your website; a wall's code goes in the same way as a widget's.
  • Use the code, not the link. The hosted page can't be shown inside a frame on another site, so pasting its link into an iframe or an "embed a URL" block shows nothing or an error. Use the code from Embed code… instead.
  • Notion can't show a wall. It runs no scripts, and the hosted page can't be framed, so a Notion Embed block with the wall's link fails too. Add the wall as a link instead: see Show testimonials in Notion.
  • A wall lower on the page loads as a visitor scrolls close to it.

If the wall is cut off

  • Check its size. In the builder's Embed tab, open Size & fit. Masonry with auto-scroll on is always exactly the Height you set. Every other layout grows with its testimonials up to that height, and anything taller scrolls inside the wall. The chip at the top of the tab lists heights that clip the cards.
  • Check the space on your page. A section or block on your site with a fixed height, or one that hides overflowing content, cuts the wall off whatever its own size. Let that block grow with its content, or make it taller.

See Embed a Wall of Love on your website for the size settings.

  • The wall is a draft. See Check this first.
  • A slug changed after you shared the link. The link ends in the project's slug and the wall's own. Changing the wall's URL, under Page address in the builder's Hosted Page tab, or the Project Slug in the project's General settings, breaks links to the old address: they don't redirect. Copy the new link with Copy link, under Share in the builder's top bar or on the wall's card. The embed code keeps working after a slug change.
  • The link uses your own domain. If you've connected a domain to the project, open the project's Domain settings. While the domain doesn't show Connected, links on it don't work, but the wall's retestimonial.com address still does. See Custom domain not connecting.

Check your subscription

Walls stop showing when billing lapses and its protection period ends. The Billing page shows which case applies:

  • A payment failed. Payment recovery required gives the date your widgets and walls stay protected until, 30 days after the failed payment. After it, they're hidden until the payment goes through. Click Update payment method. See Payment failed.
  • The project is read-only. When your plan covers fewer projects, for example after you cancel and return to Free, the projects you don't keep active become read-only. Their walls stay live for up to 30 days, then stop until the project is active again. See Project is read-only.

If you use a caching or speed plugin

Caching and performance tools, such as WordPress caching plugins, can get in the way:

  • Clear the cache after you add the code, so visitors don't get a copy of the page saved before it.
  • Exclude the wall's script from options that delay, combine or move JavaScript. Its address starts with https://cdn.retestimonial.com.

Changes to a published wall can take a few minutes to reach your site. Reload the page after a few minutes.

Allow it in your security policy

If your site sends a Content Security Policy, it has to allow the wall. Add https://cdn.retestimonial.com to script-src and connect-src, and https://retestimonial.com to connect-src. Photos, fonts and videos can come from other addresses; the browser console names each one the policy blocks.

Find the cause in the browser console

Open the page, right-click it, choose Inspect and open the Console tab. Reload the page, then type retestimonial in the console's filter box.
