Import Product Hunt reviews
Connect your product's Product Hunt page, import its reviews as testimonials and keep new ones coming in with auto-sync.
Bring the reviews your product has on Product Hunt into ReTestimonial. Each review becomes a text testimonial you can approve and show like any other. Product Hunt import is available on Business.
Before you start
You need the address of your product's Product Page, the page on Product Hunt that collects its launches and reviews (What are Product Pages?). Open it in your browser and copy the address, which looks like https://www.producthunt.com/products/your-product. You don't sign in to Product Hunt. The link to one of your launches works too: the product behind it is looked up when you connect.
Open Review Platforms
In your project, open Review Platforms under Collect in the sidebar, then choose the Product Hunt tab.
Connect your product
Click Connect Product. Paste the address into Product Hunt Product URL; a link to the product's reviews page works too. Under Product Name, type the name you want to see in ReTestimonial, then click Connect Product.
The product appears as a card under Connected Products. You can connect each product once per project.
Import reviews
On the product's card, click Import. In the Import Product Hunt Reviews dialog:
- Use the Reviews to Import slider to choose how many reviews to bring in.
- Pick a Sort order to decide which reviews come first: Most Recent (the default), Most Helpful, Highest Rating or Lowest Rating.
- Tick Auto-approve all imported reviews if you want to skip the Pending step.
Click the button at the bottom of the dialog; its label shows how many reviews you chose. An import can take a few minutes. When it finishes, a message says how many reviews were imported and how many were skipped.
Where imported reviews go
Imported reviews arrive in Pending, where you approve the ones you want to show. If you ticked Auto-approve all imported reviews, they go straight to Approved. You can also find them under All Imports in the sidebar.
Each review comes in as a text testimonial with the reviewer's name and photo, their star rating when they gave one, the review text, an approximate review date and a link to the review on Product Hunt.
Which reviews are imported
- The testimonial text is the positive part of the review. Under All Imports, each Product Hunt review also shows its What's great, Needs improvement and vs Alternatives parts, but only the positive text is used as the testimonial.
- Reviews without enough positive text to quote, such as a rating on its own or only criticism, are skipped.
- A review is never imported twice in the same project.
- An import reads as many reviews as you chose on the slider and skips the ones it can't use, so it can bring in fewer. Run Import again to continue with reviews you haven't imported yet; each run reaches further back.
Only one import or sync runs at a time for each product.
Import new reviews automatically (auto-sync)
Click Sync on a product's card to import new reviews right away. When your plan limits syncs, the button shows how many you've used this month, across all the products in the project. A sync that fails doesn't count.
To import new reviews on a schedule, open the menu on the product's card and choose Settings. Turn on Auto-sync reviews and click Save Settings. The Auto-sync frequency is Monthly. The card then shows a badge with the frequency. Auto-sync runs once that much time has passed since the product's last import or sync. For what each setting does, see Keep imported reviews up to date with auto-sync.
In the same dialog:
- Auto-approve synced reviews sends reviews from Sync and auto-sync straight to Approved instead of Pending. Import uses its own Auto-approve all imported reviews box.
- Notify on new reviews, with Email notifications and In-app notifications, tells you when an import, a sync or auto-sync brings in new reviews. Email notifications are on by default and go to the workspace owner.
Sync and auto-sync always start from the most recent reviews. Sort order applies only to Import.
If an automatic sync fails after its retries, or is skipped because the month's reviews are used up, the people who manage the project get a notification: Product Hunt reviews couldn't be imported after a failure, or Product Hunt reviews not imported: monthly limit reached when the month's reviews are used up. In notification settings, this kind of notification is called Review sync needs attention.
Disconnect a product
Open the menu on the product's card, choose Disconnect and confirm with Disconnect. The reviews you imported stay in your project, and the reviews and syncs you used this month still count.
Plan limits
These limits apply to each project. The Monthly usage bar on the Product Hunt tab shows how many reviews you've imported this month and how many remain.
| Free | Pro | Premium | Business | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Products | 0 | 0 | 0 | 5 |
| Reviews per import | 0 | 0 | 0 | 100 |
| Reviews per month | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1,000 |
| Syncs per month | 0 | 0 | 0 | 4 |
Each review counts once. Deleting imported reviews doesn't give back your monthly allowance, and a review you've already imported can't be imported again, even after you disconnect and reconnect the product.
Only teammates with import access can connect products, run imports and change sync settings. Everyone else sees this page read-only.
