Review import questions
Short answers about importing reviews, from platforms, plans and limits to auto-sync, low ratings, duplicates, edits, source badges and disconnecting.
Quick answers to common questions about importing reviews from review sites. Each one links to the article with the full steps.
Which review sites can I import from?
Google, G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, Yelp, Product Hunt, App Store and Booking.com. Each has its own tab on the Review Platforms page, under Collect in your project's sidebar.
You can import Google reviews on every plan, and G2 reviews with your own G2 API token on every plan. The table in Review platform imports lists the plans for the other platforms. When your plan doesn't include one, its tab shows Upgrade to Unlock.
Are imported reviews published straight away?
Not unless you choose to. Imported reviews arrive in Pending, and your widgets and Wall of Love pages can show them only once they're approved.
To skip that step, tick the auto-approve box in the import dialog, or turn on Auto-approve synced reviews in a connection's Settings for reviews from Sync and auto-sync. See Approve, reject and archive testimonials.
Do new reviews come in automatically?
Yes, with auto-sync, where your plan includes it: for Google that's Pro, Premium and Business, and the auto-sync plans table lists the others. Open the menu on a connection's card, choose Settings, turn on Auto-sync reviews and pick an Auto-sync frequency: Monthly, or Weekly, which only Google (on Business) and G2 (on Business) offer. Click Save Settings.
After the first automatic sync, auto-sync runs once that much time has passed since the connection's last import or sync. The first one differs: on Google and G2 it comes a full interval after you switch auto-sync on, and on the other platforms once 30 days have passed since the last sync. Yelp processes its imports once a day, so Yelp reviews can take until the next day to arrive. To check for new reviews right away, click Sync on the card. See Keep imported reviews up to date with auto-sync.
Can I leave out negative reviews?
When you run Import, on some platforms:
- Google and G2: set a Minimum Star Rating in the import dialog. It's available on Pro, Premium and Business for Google and Pro, Premium and Business for G2.
- Booking.com: choose a Minimum score.
- Capterra and Product Hunt: there's no filter, but you can choose the highest rating first under Sort order.
- Trustpilot, Yelp and the App Store: every rating is imported.
Sync and auto-sync always bring in new reviews at every rating. To keep low ratings off your site, leave auto-approve off and approve only the reviews you want to show, or set a Minimum rating in a widget's auto-sync rules (see Fill a widget with auto-sync).
A review that arrives without a star rating comes in without one: its stars are hidden rather than set to five.
Will importing again bring in duplicates?
No. ReTestimonial remembers every review it has imported into a project, so Import and Sync skip the ones you already have, even after you delete them or disconnect and reconnect the listing.
A review that the platform lists with nothing to identify it by isn't imported, because it couldn't be recognized next time.
How many reviews can I import?
It depends on the platform and your plan. For each project, your plan sets how many listings you can connect, how many reviews one import brings in, how many you can import a month and how often you can click Sync. On Free, for example, you can import up to 25 Google reviews a month. Each platform's guide has its full table, and the Monthly usage bar on a tab shows what you've used this month.
Imported reviews also count toward your plan's text testimonial limit, which is 10 text and audio testimonials across your workspace on Free. Rejected, archived and spam testimonials don't count. See Review platform imports.
Can I edit an imported review?
Yes. Open it in Pending, Approved or Archived, click Show more, then Edit. You can change its words, the reviewer's name and details, and its date, but not its star rating. Sync only adds reviews you don't have yet, so it never undoes your edits. The All Imports page has no Edit. See Edit a testimonial.
Do imported reviews show which site they came from?
Yes. In your inbox, an imported review shows the platform's logo and name, and a badge that names the location, product or business it came from.
On a widget, each card can show its source: in the Design tab, the Source & Verified panel has Show source and Show source logo, which are on until you turn them off. Some styles don't show a source. See Customize a widget.
Under All Imports, a review's menu can also open the original review, such as View on G2. See Imported content.
Can I reply to reviews from ReTestimonial?
No. ReTestimonial only reads reviews and never posts anything to the review site, so reply on the site itself. For a Google review you'd already answered before it was imported, your answer shows under "Response from owner:" on its card under All Imports. See Imported content.
What happens to imported reviews if I disconnect?
They stay in your project. Disconnect, in the menu on a connection's card, removes only the connection and stops its syncing. On Google you can choose Disconnect & Delete Reviews instead, which also permanently deletes every review imported from that location.
If you connect the listing again later, reviews you already imported don't come in twice, and syncs you've used this month still count. See Review platform imports.
