Pause, change or delete a Smart Invites webhook

Pause a Smart Invites webhook to stop new invites, change its form, emails, paths or signing secret, or delete it for good.

To stop a Smart Invites webhook inviting customers for a while, open its page and click Pause. Events that arrive while it's paused are discarded, so those customers aren't invited later. On the same page, Settings changes what the webhook does with each event, and the bin icon deletes it. Customers who were already invited stay in their campaign and keep getting their emails.

Smart Invites are on Premium and Business, and you need to own the workspace or be an Admin on the project.

Open the webhook

In your project's sidebar, open Invites under Collect, go to the Webhooks tab and click the webhook. The badge beside its platform's name reads Active or Paused.

Pause it, change it or delete it

Use the buttons at the top of the page:

The signing secret isn't in Settings. It's on the Setup tab: see Replace or turn off the signing secret.

If a button answers that the project or the workspace is read-only, nothing in the project can be changed for now: see Project is read-only.

Pause a webhook

Pause stops invites but keeps the URL. Events that arrive while it's paused are acknowledged and discarded, so those customers aren't invited later. Click Activate to start again.

Pausing takes effect at once, without asking. The badge changes to Paused, here and on the Webhooks tab, and a notice on the page says the webhook is paused.

  • Your platform sees no error. Each event is answered as received, so your platform doesn't report failed deliveries.
  • Discarded events leave no trace. They aren't listed under Activity and aren't counted under Received. To invite a customer who bought in the meantime, click Activate, then send their event again from your platform, or invite them by hand.
  • Customers already invited keep getting their emails. To stop one customer's emails, choose Cancel remaining emails for them in the webhook's campaign: see Track invite campaigns and contacts.
  • A paused webhook still counts toward the webhooks your plan allows in a project.

Change a webhook's settings

Settings opens Webhook settings, where you can change the name, Default form, Email sequence, field paths, filter, Conditional routing and timing. Click Save changes; changes apply to future events only. The platform can't be changed: create a new webhook for another one.

In Webhook settingsWhat it changes
Webhook nameThe name on the Webhooks tab. The webhook's campaign on the Campaigns tab is renamed with it.
Default form and Email sequenceThe form the emails link to, and which emails are sent, for customers invited from now on.
Email path, Name path and Company path, under Field MappingWhere the customer's email address, name and company are read in each event.
Only invite when (optional)Which events invite someone: see Invite only some customers.
Extra fields (optional)More values read from each event: see Read more from each event.
Conditional routingWhich customers go to which form: see Send customers to different forms.
Wait before the first email and Re-invite cooldown (days), under TimingWhen the first email goes out, and how soon the same address can be invited again.

Nothing is saved until you click Save changes; Cancel leaves the webhook as it was.

What stays as it was. Events already listed under Activity keep their result. Customers already invited keep the form, the email sequence and the email times they were given, and Copy invite link on a customer's row gives the link to the form that customer was given.

What you can't change. The platform, and the webhook's URL. If the URL gets out, delete the webhook and create a new one.

Replace or turn off the signing secret

The Setup tab shows the Webhook URL and your platform's steps again. It's also where you Replace secret or Turn off signature checks. Stripe, Shopify, WooCommerce, Lemon Squeezy and Paddle webhooks have a signing secret; Gumroad and custom webhooks have none.

  • Replace secret: paste the secret your platform shows now and click Save. Use it when you roll the secret in your platform, or when you move from your platform's test mode to live. A saved secret can't be viewed again, only replaced. From then on, an event signed with the old secret fails.
  • Turn off removes the saved secret at once, without asking. Events are then accepted without a signature check. To turn checking on again, paste the secret and click Save.

Delete a webhook

The Delete webhook button (the bin icon) removes it. Its URL stops working immediately and its event history is removed, but customers already invited keep their emails. Confirm with Delete webhook.

  • It can't be undone. A webhook you create afterwards has a new URL, to paste into your platform again.
  • Remove the webhook in your platform too. Every event your platform still sends to the old URL is refused, and your platform reports those deliveries as failed.
  • The webhook's campaign stays on the Campaigns tab, with its customers.
  • Deleting makes room for a new webhook when the project has all the webhooks its plan allows.

Webhooks on a plan without Smart Invites

If the workspace moves to a plan without Smart Invites, your webhooks are kept and work again when the plan returns. Until then:

  • Their URLs still answer. Every event they receive is skipped, and nobody is invited.
  • The Invites page lists them under the upgrade prompt, as Webhooks kept from your earlier plan.
  • You can delete one, but not pause or change it. Click Delete beside the webhook to switch its URL off, then remove it in your platform too.

What happens next

The Webhooks tab lists each webhook with its badge, Active or Paused, and when its last event arrived. After you change a setting, run a test to see how the webhook reads an event now: the test uses the saved settings.
